Grease damage around restaurant exhaust systems is one of those problems that sneaks up on you. The kitchen runs, the exhaust pumps out heat and grease-laden air, and over time that grease breaks down the membrane on your TPO roof. Most restaurant owners have no idea it's happening until water is coming through the ceiling.

That's exactly what we were dealing with here at a Sandy Springs restaurant. The area around the exhaust equipment had taken a beating. TPO doesn't hold up well against prolonged grease exposure - it degrades the membrane and creates weak points that water will eventually find. Catching it before it turned into a major interior leak was the right call.

We reroofed the damaged section with a fresh TPO roofing system, getting a solid, clean base back in place. From there, we applied a white acrylic rubberized elastomeric roof coating over the surface. That coating adds a reflective, waterproof barrier that helps protect the membrane underneath and keeps the roof performing the way it should. It's a smart layer of added protection for any commercial flat roof, especially in a kitchen exhaust environment where the roof takes more abuse than most.

The finished surface is tight, sealed, and ready to hold up. White acrylic coatings like this also help reflect heat, which is a bonus for any building running commercial kitchen equipment. Less heat absorption at the roof means less strain on the HVAC system working below it. It's a small detail that adds up over time.

If your commercial roof is showing signs of wear - especially around exhaust fans, HVAC units, or other rooftop equipment - it's worth getting a set of eyes on it sooner rather than later. A targeted repair now is almost always cheaper than a full tear-off down the road.
